SWITCHING FROM FIDELITY
Switching From Fidelity? Here's What Actually Changes.
A $1.5M-$2M household sits right at the seam between Fidelity's two advisory tiers: below the top tier, but well past the entry point. Fidelity's own compensation disclosure is unusually candid that advisor pay is tied to how much of your money moves onto its platform.

HOW FIDELITY IS ACTUALLY STRUCTURED
Programs, Fees, and Minimums.
Fidelity Wealth Services
$50,000 minimum; a dedicated advisor typically requires $500,000+. Fee range roughly 0.50%-1.50%.
Fidelity Private Wealth Management
Requires $2,000,000+ in Wealth Services/Strategic Disciplines assets AND $10,000,000+ in total investable assets to qualify. Fee roughly 0.50%-1.04% (advisory sleeve) or 0.20%-0.49% (separately managed account sleeve, plus 0.35%-0.40%).
Tax return preparation
Not included. Fidelity instead offers clients a discounted (20% off) referral to outside firms, Ernst & Young or Baker Tilly, for tax return preparation, an arrangement disclosed in Fidelity's own client materials.
HOW THE INCENTIVES WORK
What's Publicly Documented About Gathering Assets.
None of this is a secret. It comes from Fidelity's own disclosures and industry trade press. It's worth understanding because it explains how the relationship is structured, not because any individual advisor is doing something wrong.
- Fidelity's own representative-compensation disclosure states advisor pay is affected by "the amount of assets a client transfers to Fidelity," ongoing account growth, and client referrals, an asset-gathering incentive the firm discloses directly rather than one inferred from outside reporting.
- Fidelity has described a firm-wide "total asset capture" strategy explicitly targeting more than $5 trillion in held-away workplace retirement assets, reported by RIABiz in 2026.
- A $1.5M-$2M household typically lands in the mid-tier Wealth Services program, not Private Wealth Management, which requires $10M+ in total investable assets to qualify at all.
Households per advisor: Not publicly disclosed by Fidelity.

How does moving more of my outside accounts to Fidelity affect your compensation?
03
Who actually prepares my tax return, and is that cost included in my advisory fee?
WHAT'S DIFFERENT AT SINGH PWM
A Fixed Fee. No Asset-Gathering Incentive. One Person.
Singh PWM charges a flat annual fee that doesn't change based on how much of your money you bring over, doesn't pay Raman Singh more for recruiting your account from another firm, and includes tax return preparation under the same Enrolled Agent who builds your retirement plan. The practice also caps its total client base at roughly 55 to 60 households, on purpose, well below the loads described above.
